Abingdon Piano School offers lessons in piano, voice, harpsichord and organ, and is open to students of all ages, from beginners to advanced, encompassing all styles from classical through jazz to modern. It caters for those who want to take ABRSM examinations, from the early grades through to grade eight and diploma-standard, but also offers a more fun and relaxed approach for those who simply want to enjoy playing or singing. There is also the opportunity to explore improvisation in all its many forms for those who would like to learn more, or who have maybe never dared to try. Abingdon Piano School brings real skill training, development of confidence and artistic sensitivity, and above all the ability to enjoy making music. The approach is tailored to the student, with a broad range of methods to accommodate all learning styles. Piano lessons are taught on two Yamaha grand pianos in the teaching studio at the Abingdon Piano School at 169 Ock Street. Timing can be flexible to fit around school or work commitments.

Andrew Knowles, the founder of the school, has been teaching piano, harpsichord, organ, voice and singer-songwriting in Abingdon since 2005. He was a pupil at Chetham’s School of Music, and is a graduate from Oxford University. He has twelve years’ experience as a school music teacher, which has taught him how to get the best out of students of all ages. He combines a busy performing schedule and teaching career. He is increasingly in demand as a composer.
